Project: A Wearable Canvas

Shot in London and Japan, A Wearable Canvas follows four London-based artists, obsessed with the dazzling, painterly quality of Meisen kimono fabric, as they meet the last of the makers of these once popular kimonos. East and West meet and collaborate, at a time when the western art establishment has finally recognized “textile” art as ‘the medium of the moment’. This is a portrait of “makers” from diverse backgrounds, through the lens of the iconic Meisen kimono: an object which is simultaneously, wearable fashion garment, cultural artefact, and singular artwork.
